Dodgeball tournament on Sports Afternoon
The French flag flying high on Bastille Day!
Making pizza dough ready for Thursday afternoon's pizza party at Forest schools. Cooling and enjoying our pizzas around the fire.
This week the children have become engineers and been challenged with designing and building a truss bridge to cover a river or valley that is 25 cm wide. They were restricted to 20 paper straws and a roll of tape. The strongest bridge won! Well done to Harry and Ava for creating the strongest bridge and to the rest of the groups bridges that were able to withstand 500g or more!
Thursday 9th July
The children enjoyed hiding from Mrs Cawthorn in hide and seek and then they had to work in little groups to successfully light their own fire. They were challenged to keep their fire burning for as long as possible. They learned how important it is to be prepared with plenty of wood before they light the fire and they developed their resilience and patience. At the end of the session, they safely put their fires out and left no trace.
Thursday 9th July art class
We finished work linked to our class read 'This Morning I Met A Whale'.
We recreated the Christian Birmingham illustration from the front cover using chalks.
We also researched into the real 2006 Thames Whale spotting and wrote a newspaper report.
We learned about the Bridges over the River Thames in central London and created our own bubble bridges map with our bridge drawings. We have really enjoyed reading Michael Morpurgo's story and can't wait to see what happens at the end!

Friday 3rd July
Making cheese and chocolate chip bread dough.
Using the knives to peel the bark from a stick to cook the bread on the fire. We enjoyed eating our breads and then finished with a game of hide and seek!
Wednesday 1st July - Year 5 bubble art session this afternoon
Thursday 25th June - Year 5 Bubble forest school session
This afternoon we baked lemon buns in our cardboard box and tinfoil oven and chocolate orange cakes on the fire. We worked in pairs to communicate and lead each other through the long grass in blindfolds and then had fun with our 'not a sticks' , before trying our delicious bakes.
Friday 19th June, 2020
Friday morning's forest school session consisted of predator and prey, fire lighting, folding saw skills, food prep, cooking halloumi and veg skewers on the fire and 'It's not a stick' fun in the sun.

11.6.20:
This afternoon, the children worked together to dismantle the den and rebuilt their own den in a different location. It had to be sturdy, protects against wind and rain, provide warmth, be camouflaged and fit up to 7 children in.
We saw fantastic teamwork, problem solving and effort. They then played a game of predator and prey. We managed to get a fire going in the rain and burning long enough to make hot chocolate and toast marshmallows to make smores. Lots of forest fun had by all.
Week Commencing 8.6.20:
Year 5 Bubble pictures. Maths:- Estimating and measuring volumes of shapes (using cubes). 3D shape nets. Playtime:- Boules on the playground.

FRENCH
In year 5 and 6 Madam Cawthorn asked the children to write a postcard in French to our twinned school in Millau, France. They introduced themselves and discussed their opinions of colours and pets. We are hoping for a reply soon. Excellent Francais!

Y5 Pottery Class with Miss Palmer
Kestrels and Buzzards had a special guest visit from Miss Palmer who came in to teach ceramics to the Year 5 children as part of a art project. They made ceramic poppies which will form part of a remembrance project in November.
